DescriptionA Communications Intern will be responsible for supporting the communications department's external and internal efforts. This position requires flexibility, creativity, excellent writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and achieving high quality standards with the intent to learn about the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry and Clark Nexsen's culture, services, clients, projects, and people.
General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


  • Assist with drafting news items, transcribing interviews, creating copy for social media, and writing blogs, employee announcements, and other material
  • Assist the communications team's media efforts, creating closed captions, resizing photos, writing video descriptions, planning social media, and finding stock assets
  • Assist in researching, compiling, and submitting annual industry rankings for the firm
  • Assist in the creation of visual content, occasionally taking photos or video of company employees or events, processing and editing photos, and editing copy for PowerPoint presentations, ads, emailers, and other external content
  • Assist in website management and content
  • Collaborate with the Marketing department, Business Development team, and other stakeholders within Clark Nexsen
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Communications team

    Education, Technology, and Experience

    • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
    • Either studying or have obtained an Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Business, or a related field.
    • A Communications Intern should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management. Programs include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, and MS Outlook
    • Experience in the use of the following programs is desirable: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Acrobat
    • Experience in videography, video editing, photography, photo editing, and graphic design is desirable

      • Strong research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
      • Ability to prioritize work under tight deadlines while remaining flexible
      • Commitment to working with teams in an engaging, positive way, with ability to work independently when needed.
      • Genuine interest in learning about the AEC industry and how communications supports Clark Nexsen

        Workplace Flexibility
        We have selected two as common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set established between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients). Our hope is that this schedule will offer the work-life balance that is desired by all, while providing consistent opportunities for face-to-face collaboration and mentorship.
        Physical Requirements
        Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight.
