Responsibilities

  • You will serve as a Cyber Security and Information Assurance (IA) Specialist responsible evaluating, analyzing, and implementing network security solutions and emerging security technologies.
  • You will plan, design, develop, and integrate computer network defense systems consistent with existing or planned network infrastructures.
  • You will be a subject matter expert on Information Assurance, security requirements, Risk Management Framework and information systems security engineering.
  • You will coordinate with other computer technical specialists, project managers, engineers, and contractors within and outside of the command to ensure timely and effective management of resources.

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as a Career Field Information Technology, Level I. You must achieve certification within 24 months of appointment
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as d escribed in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 722 within 6 months of appointment.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your experience must reflect skills in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

  1. Attention to Detail - IT related experience. Utilizes security models and their application to confidentiality and integrity of information and networks.

  2. Customer Service - IT related experience. Provides customers planning, designing, development, and integrate computer network defense systems consistent with existing or planned network infrastructures.

  3. Oral Communication - IT related experience. Advise on Information Technology development/engineering tasks (evaluate requirements, design, implement, test, document) related to information security, including the development of white papers to advocate best solutions

  4. Problem Solving - IT related experience. Performs vulnerability detection, assessment, and/or exploitation including accurately identifying vulnerable applications and systems and making risk determination.

NO-2210-04: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Applies information assurance (IA) requirements to protect confidentiality, integrity, availability, authenticity, and non-repudiation of information and data;
  • Evaluates, implements, and disseminates information technology (IT) security assessment, and tools, procedures, and guidelines to monitor, detect, and remediation of system vulnerabilities; and
  • Utilizes security management such as Release Management, Patch Management

OR

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

  1. Attention to Detail- IT related experience. Performs work and conscientious about attending to detail.

  2. Customer Service- IT related experience. Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

  3. Oral Communication - IT related experience. Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

  4. Problem Solving- IT related experience. Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

NO-2210-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Oversees cyber security requirements, Information Assurance, Risk Management Framework and information systems security engineering;
  • Evaluates, analyzes, and implements network security solutions and emerging security technologies.
  • Performs vulnerability detection, assessment, and/or exploitation including accurately identifying vulnerable applications and systems and making risk determination.
  • Manages tools for vulnerability assessments (ACAS, STIGs, SRGs, SCAP, XCCDF, HBSS etc.) including generation of reports based on established guidance.
