Description Children’s Harbor is a different kind of early childhood Education Center delivering a fresh approach to meet the development needs of a new generation of leaders. Since 1911, Children’s Harbor has been removing learning barriers by empowering children through the power of collaborative learning environments, we are committed to preparing children for their first years in school. Headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, Children’s Harbor has been recognized as one of Hampton Roads top early childhood education centers with four locations throughout the tidewater region. Scope of role: The Chief Executive Officer administers and maintains exemplary early childhood programs and services in accordance with the agency’s stated purpose in the By-Laws. The Chief Executive Officer operates under the general direction of the agency’s Board of Directors. The main objective is to provide innovative, high quality early childhood programs. Key responsibilities and basic functions fall within the following areas: General Administration Carry out the mission according to the strategic direction of a board of directors Implements policies of the board Maintains agency’s facilities and resources Provides information to the board and reports on developments, which impact, on the agency. Assists the board in the formulation of policies for the effective operation of the agency. Monitors the physical plants with the framework of national, local and state welfare, health, and fire regulations for all agency programs. Provides overall direction for the personnel of the agency as outlined in the personnel policy Plan, develop, implement and direct the organization’s operational and fiscal function and performance Administers and manages fiscal management program, including but not limited to preparation of budgets, financial statements, reports and fund-raising activities in accordance with the operating budget approved by the Board of Directors. Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. Strategic Planning Assist in development and implementation of strategic plan. Monitors and tracts success of strategic plan Develops concepts and targeted plans of action into measurable goals. Provides focus and direction on key ideas. Community and Public Relations Proactively address challenges in the internal and external environment to protect business interests Coordinates all agency public relations. Develops and supports programs within the community to promote the quality of early childhood programs, and advocates for the welfare of young children. Assists the board in the development and implementation of a public relations strategy designed to communicate the mission, programs, and services to the community. Act, in conjunction with the Board Chairperson, as the principal spokesperson for the affiliate; ensures the affiliate mission, programs, and services are communicated to the community. Maintains liaison with community groups and agencies; ensures activities of the affiliate are coordinated with appropriate groups, which impact the community. Implements public relations strategies that enhance the image, visibility and profile of the affiliate. Conveys information in timely and appropriate manner to all stakeholders. Position Requirements QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in business, education, or related field with five (5) years’ progressive management experience is preferred. Operational management of a comparable agency is also highly desired. EXPERIENCE Five years’ experience in business management, early childhood education, personnel management, strategic planning, fiscal management, program development and administration, or a combination of the above. Two years of experience working with a volunteer board or other demonstrated community leadership experience. Management and supervisory experience. Other required skills include proposal writing, organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, planning and evaluation skills, and general management skills.
