Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health, founded in 1986, is an 82 bed facility within the city of Norfolk, Virginia. Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health offers comprehensive mental health programs in Virginia. We are a Universal Health Services facility that provides psychiatrically and medically managed acute, residential treatment, and partial hospitalization for children and adolescents with significant impairments in their social and emotional development.

We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need using quality, evidence based practice treatments. We are accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is seeking a dynamic and Health Information Management/ Utilization Review Clerk.

Position Scope:

Sorts patients' clinical/medical information alphabetically, chronologically, and by unit; and files information in clinical records per company guidelines. Copies reports and prepares information for mailing/faxing in accordance with release of information company policies and procedures. Assembles and analyzes discharged patients' records. Participates as a team member within the facility and case management departments.

Essential Functions:

  • Process Release of Information Requests.
  • Perform Chart Assembly and Analysis to ensure 100% compliance.
  • Perform HIM Department Functions.
  • Facilitates communication regarding patient treatment process and needs with referral sources and payers.
  • Demonstrates regular reporting of patient's progress goals to payer with treatment team input while maintaining awareness of and conveying to the team the funding source needs and status.
  • Demonstrates coordination of patient's treatment through the interdisciplinary team.
  • Manages the patient's transition outside the facility in a manner which assures continuity of care.
  • Service Excellence.
  • Other duties as assigned based on the needs of the facility.
    Job Requirements

    Qualifications:

    Needs basic understanding of and comfort level with medical terminology, acute/residential treatment,

    clinical science/pathology and psychiatric disorders. Must know how to gather and analyze data. Must be

    articulate, assertive, and able to communicate effectively with families, payers, therapists and physicians

    both verbally and in writing. Must also demonstrate initiative, tact and good judgment. Must have basic

    computer skills.

    Education:

    Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.

    Experience:

    One year of general office or clerical experience preferably in a health care setting.

    Physical Requirements:

    Must have normal auditory processing. 50% of time, incumbent is seated and talking on the phone or using a computer. May require a valid Driver's License.
