- G Job Duties The Office of Information Technology (OIT) manages
the administrative and academic information technology resources
for Norfolk State University. The Office of Information Technology
(OIT) empowers University students, faculty, and staff by providing
quality information technology leadership, resources, services, and
support. The office invites applicants for the position of
Infrastructure Computing Engineer. Perform highly skilled technical
work to assure proper installation, operation, and maintenance of
server applications and services that impact the entire University
community; integrate and automate those applications and services
into the environment; assist in planning and implementation of
local and hosted server infrastructure changes and support for
other technology-based projects; develop and compile research and
statistical reports; and, assist in maintaining the overall
stability and reliability of the local and hosted server operating
environment. Support business disaster recovery procedures for
assigned areas of responsibility. Incumbent’s duties and
responsibilities include: Participate in the planning and design of
services and systems. Identify and implement technologies that
allow for appropriate growth and expansion of systems environment
and services that OIT provides to the University Community.
Proactively monitor systems to ensure maximum performance and
availability. Design and document processes to automate tasks.
Coordinate with the technical points of contact to migrate services
and data. Automate tasks using the University integration Platform
as a Service (iPaaS). Test, verify and ensure logging of the
automation process to ensure proper operation. Coordinate with the
technical points of contact to ensure specialized software and
applications are kept up to date and changes to university systems

Extensive demonstrated knowledge of server and network systems
installation, administration, performance monitoring, and
troubleshooting, and the theories, concepts, principles, models,
methods, and tools associated with each. Demonstrated knowledge of
server and network security, network architecture, and new and
emerging IT and client-server technologies. Demonstrated knowledge
of application and system integration and automation concepts and
implementations. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing
tasks and work both independently and as a team member.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical matters, both
verbally and in writing, to end users who have varied levels of
understanding of subject matters. Experience detecting,
identifying, removing, and implementing measures to mitigate the
effect of malware, viruses, and electronic trespass. Experience
providing technical assistance to developers and other IT personnel
to facilitate utilization/maintenance of new and existing systems.
High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training
and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and
abilities. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Windows based server
environments and services (i.e. Active Directory, DHCP, DNS).
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft based cloud services. (i.e.
EntraID (Azure Active Directory), Office 365 Mailboxes, Account
Provisioning) KSA’s and or Competencies required to successfully
perform the work: Technical: Extensive knowledge of server
technology stacks (Microsoft, Linux/Unix). Extensive knowledge of
scripting and other automation technologies. Knowledge of
Virtualization concepts and implementations (i.e. VMWare technology
stack), knowledge of networking concepts (i.e. IP, DHCP, DNS, and
VLANs), understanding of enterprise server architectures (i.e. high
availability, load balancing, redundancy, failover), extensive
knowledge of Active Directory or Entra ID ( AzureAD ) concepts.
Personal/Personality: Must have experience interacting with other
people in a customer-oriented service manner. Having good
interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills is
essential. Must be able to work in a collaborative, team
environment. Must be a "self-starter" and be able to proactively
identify problems (or potential problems) and propose solutions.
Initiative and creativity are important qualities to make this
position successful. Ability to create and maintain customer
satisfaction and express conclusions in a clear, technically sound
manner on matters associated with information technology.
Participate in collaborative initiatives which foster the mutual
exchange of knowledge and expertise. Additional Considerations
Microsoft Certified Engineer (MCSE), VMWare Virtual Certified
Professional (VCP), or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCITP).
Previous experience working in a Server environment. Previous
experience with scripting. Experience in the coordination and
delivery of computing services and technology in an academic
environment preferred. Bachelor of Science degree from an
accredited institution in Computer Science or discipline related to
the knowledge skills and abilities; or equivalent combination of
education and experience that meets the minimum qualifications, as
