and has served as the primary teaching institution for the adjacent
Medical School in Southern Virginia. The Cardiothoracic Surgery
Clinical Nurse Specialist will work within a medical center that is

heart-specialized care from advanced diagnostic imaging to
minimally invasive procedures, surgeries, and transplants.
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinical Nurse Specialist will join a
distinguished heart program that consistently ranks among the top
in the Nation, according to U.S News & World Report. During
2016-2017, the Cardiology and Heart Surgery Program at this
esteemed hospital ranked among the Top 25 in the country, which
then marked over 15 consecutive years placing among the Nation's
elite Top 50 Hospitals in the survey.
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinical Nurse Specialist will encounter
many types of procedures at this facility, including heart
transplants, open heart surgeries, cabbages, valve repairs,
abrasions, vents, and some drug infusion/therapies in the unit. The
Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinical Nurse Specialist will report to the
Cardiovascular Surgical Director and will be responsible for the
effective administration of the 20-bed unit as well as supervising
other nursing staff who handle a patient volume of 1-2 cases
each.
