Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring a
Molecular Diagnostic Scientist tech to work full-time day shifts
(0900-1730) in Molecular Diagnostics.

Job requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science
or medical technology
- ASCP or AMT certification; or be eligible for certification
- Molecular Biology certification specialty required within one
year of employment
Job duty is to perform molecular microbiology and molecular
pathology based laboratory tests; utilize critical thinking skills
to interpret complex test results; document and report test
results; maintain equipment, instruments, and tools. Understands
the molecular laboratory workflow and contamination risks.
Communicates clearly with pathologists and physicians. Demonstrates
fiscal responsibility with regard to reagent and consumable usage.
Strong time management skills are necessary to effectively complete
workload.

Job Summary
Performs molecular microbiology and molecular pathology based
laboratory tests; utilizes critical thinking skills to interpret

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or
medical technology from an accredited institution. Certified or
certification eligible as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or
Molecular Biology Technologist (MB) with American Society of
Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or a Medical Technologist or
Molecular Diagnostics Technologist (MDT) with American Medical
Technologists (AMT). Molecular Biology specialty required within
one year of employment. Proof of eligibility required prior to date
of employment. Certification for eligible employees must be
acquired within one year from date of hire. Certification must
remain current for continued employment.
Qualifications:
BLD - Bachelor's Level Degree (Required)
Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB) - Certification - American
Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
