GENERAL SUMMARYThe Radiology Patient Coordinator is responsible for facilitating operations within the Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) department. This position will function as part of a continuum of care to ensure patient and family access to MRI services and is responsible for accurate data collection, documentation, and data retrieval. Reports directly to Radiology Supervisor with oversight from Manager, Radiology and Director, Diagnostic Imaging Services.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvides customer service in communications with families, doctors offices, modalities, and any communication inside and outside of CHKDHS.Acts as liaison between nursing, anesthesiologists, radiologists, technologists and diagnostic schedulers; coordinates schedules, screens and prepares patients/families for appointment, patient access and workflow, ensuring timely placement of add-on/urgent examinations.Assists the Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) team by answering phone calls, screening patients for MRI safety, and researching patient history to assess for MRI clearance.Maintains an updates knowledge of the exam time length, prep, MRI magnet choice, and all of the restrictions associated with the schedule or type of exam, including special circumstances and to be flexible as these are updated.Verifies physician orders for completeness and assisting in locating missing orders.Reviews future schedules for potential scheduling errors.Under the guidance of the MRI Technologists, manages MRI Safety and communicates with the MRI Lead for assistance with day to day operations.Maintains confidentiality of patients/families medical information in accordance with department and hospital policies.Participates in on-going quality assurance and process improvement, assists with data collection as needed.Assures customer satisfaction (interdepartmental, community and patient/family) with services.Seeks guidance from management for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies, protocols and standards of practice.Performs all other duties as assigned.LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONSRequired Licenses and/or CertificationsNo current licensure required.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSRequired Education and ExperienceMinimum of 1 year clinical experience required as a Medical Assistant (MA), Imaging Technologist, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Corpsman or related clinical position will be considered.Preferred Education and ExperienceAssociates degree in Healthcare or related field preferred.Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesProficiency in medical terminology required.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.Must possess strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to interact with and build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.Analytical skills necessary to coordinate multiple schedules and manage add-on/urgent examinations while managing exam time length based on the individual case.Proficiency and technical aptitude with the use of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.Ability to follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality of all facility and facility-related (patients/families) information.WORKING CONDITIONSEmployees in this job classification perform Laboratory, Radiological, Diagnostic or Imaging procedures in a healthcare environment with moderate exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, odors or extremes in temperature. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous materials, radiation, radio nucleotides, medicinal preparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment. Following proper safety and health procedures reduces potential for personal harm or injury.
