Job Description:

This position is located in the Director for Medial Services, Emergency Medicine, NAVMEDCEN PORTSMOUTH VA. The purpose of the position is to provide care to patients in the Emergency Department (ED), provide stability to, and contribute to the graduate medical education (GME) of Emergency Medicine (EM) residents, interns, medical students and other medical trainees. Responsibilities You will provide emergency care, evaluation and treatment of Emergency Room patients. You will facilitate patient access to continuing medical care by referrals to other healthcare providers. You will conduct peer reviews and participate in performance improvement activities in accordance with established command policies. You will participate in formal programs, workshops, seminars, conferences as required. You will perform daily clinical teaching of residents, interns, and other medical personnel for program compliance. You will identify and recommend developmental and training needs of employees. Travel Required -Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position. Conditions Of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing. Must receive and maintain appropriate vaccinations. Advance Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) is required. Seasonal influenza vaccinations required. Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) fingerprint check is required. State Criminal History Repositories (SCHR) check is required A favorable Tier 3 background investigation is required. Qualifications This announcement uses the OPM Federal Wide direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. APPLY NOW! In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GP-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. This includes, but is not limited to, a wide range of medical duties specializing in all aspects of emergency care such as advanced examination, diagnosis, and treatment to ensure effectiveness of treatment covering a wide range of non-emergent and urgent conditions as well as life threatening emergencies in the Emergency Department. Applicants must also be able to satisfy clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following: Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible. Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as an Emergency Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required). No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges. Board certification is desired but not required. LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has two Selective Placement Factors (SPF). The actual SPFs are do you have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of this factor must be verifiable via resume AND the occupational questionnaire. Education Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must posses: DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. If your Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree is from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States, you must have a permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or a Fifth Pathway Certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduated education in a foreign country. RESIDENCY: 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Family Medicine (i.e., 3 yrs. Residency & 2 years fellowship and/or experience). Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Family Medicine to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-14 Level. Additional information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Additional vacancies may be filled by this announcement.
