Posting Details Job Title Chair of the School of Nursing Department NURSING DEPT Position Number F0229A1 Job Description The Chair is the chief administrative officer of the School of Nursing who is responsible for the planning, budget management, fundraising, and personnel aspects of the School. The School includes 35 full-time faculty members and approximately 700 undergraduate and graduate students. There are three undergraduate nursing degree options: BSN pre-licensure, BSN post-licensure, and BSN concurrent enrollment programs. At the graduate level, ODU offers the Master of Science in Nursing (Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwifery and Nurse Administrator), and the Post-MSN Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. Master of Science level nurse practitioner program specialties include family, pediatric, neonatal, and psychiatric mental health. Clinical Nurse Specialist options include geriatric and nurse executive. Other MSN program offerings include Nurse Midwifery. For more information about Old Dominion University, please visit: ******************** The School of Nursing is the largest of five schools housed in the College of Health Sciences (*********************** a growing multi-disciplinary environment including Schools of Community and Environmental Health, Dental Hygiene, Rehabilitation Sciences, and Medical Diagnostic & Translational Sciences. The College currently offers several doctoral programs including the Doctor of Nursing Practice, the Doctor of Physical Therapy and PhD Programs in Health Services Research, Kinesiology and Rehabilitation, and Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Regenerative Medicine. The School of Nursing located at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is dedicated to graduating nursing professionals who are leaders capable of meeting the health care challenges of the 21st century. The School of Nursing is nationally ranked in the top 25% for its online graduate nursing programs. Faculty have received grant funding totaling over $7 million in the past 5 years. Additionally, the Center for Telehealth Innovation, Education, and Research has been recently established within the College and is one of the few telehealth academic centers in the country. Other responsibilities may include: (a) active program of scholarly research, publication, and promote the pursuit of external research funding, (b) develop and establish the future direction of the School of Nursing in collaboration with the Dean, the faculty and other community stake holders. Type of Recruitment General Public Type of Recruitment General Public Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities Candidates will have a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of associate or full professor eligible for tenure; strong record of progressively responsible and relevant university leadership experience and a minimum of three years of experience at the department head level or above are required. A minimum of 7 years teaching experience in higher education and demonstrated higher education administrative experience is expected. Minimum Qualifications - Education or training Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DNSc) in a related field from an accredited university, a graduate degree in nursing and eligible for an appointment at the rank of Associate/Professor with tenure Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification The successful candidate must be a licensed Registered Nurse eligible to practice in the Common Wealth of Virginia. Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include: formal leadership in baccalaureate and/or graduate nursing programs; formal supervisory and personnel experience. Significant and successful experience with grant writing and extramural funding. Record of successful outreach to the community.
