Description:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the oversight of
the nursing care programs and staff of Health Services (Health
Care, Assisted Living/Memory Support, and the Clinic) in accordance
with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and
regulations. The DON establishes and implements policies and
procedures, develops staffing plans, reports and budgets,
coordinates with other departments, and ensures quality resident
care. The DON is considered essential personnel and must be
available before, during and after inclement weather or any
disaster situation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPlan,
develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activities
of nursing services in compliance with all applicable rules,
regulations, and guidelinesProvide medical assessment of applicants
for admission; delegate this responsibility when necessaryDevelop
and implement procedures that ensure nursing equipment and supplies
are approved, ordered, maintained, and used in an efficient manner
to ensure adequate coverage of needs and avoid wasteAssist in
patient care as needed. Make rounds to monitor staff performance.
Advise Administrator of status of seriously or critically ill
patients and unusual situations. Ensure proper procedures are
followed for discharges and transfersOversee staffing, recruitment
and selection, orientation and training, scheduling, employee
relations, counseling, and discipline. Review and respond to
complaints/grievancesComplete appropriate forms, reports,
evaluations, and studiesSupervise development and maintenance of
care plans for each resident in coordination with resident/family,
staff, Medical Director, other physicians, and consultants/vendors
(i.e., hospice, dialysis); supervise care plan meetings, risk
meetingsProvide Health Care Oversight, as needed, as required for
Assisted Living regulations (Department of Social
Services)Coordinate an ongoing Quality Assurance program and
provide appropriate plans of action to correct any identified
deficienciesDevelop departmental budget and staffing planMaintain
written record of residents' complaints or grievances, action
taken, and status of the complaint. Report actions to Health
Services AdministratorDevelop, maintain, and periodically update
Nursing Procedures Manual, policies, procedures, and job
descriptions. Train staff on and monitor compliance with policies
and procedures (including safety, emergency preparedness, infection
control, etc.). Maintain a reference library of nursing material
and best practicesMake reports and recommendations to Health
Services Administrator and Assistant Executive Director as
necessary or required concerning the operation of nursing
servicesDevelop methods for coordination of nursing services with
other resident services, to ensure the continuity of the residents'
total regimen of careParticipate in surveys and inspections made by
government agenciesParticipate in resident Level of Care
discussions, in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary teamPerform
other duties as assigned. Attend in-service classes and staff
meetings. Participate in various committees
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. At
least 4 Years of progressively responsible work experience in the
long-term care industry or related field, including experience in
nursing supervision Knowledge of the regulatory process as it
relates to state surveysCurrent unencumbered license as a
Registered Nurse from the State Board of Nursing of the
Commonwealth of VirginiaISP and UAI certification (If not
certified, will provide opportunity for training)Current
Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)PI201776830
