Practice Manager II

Responsible for the planning, organization, direction and
coordination of EVMS Ophthalmology clinical practice operations
within the EVMS Sentara Lions Sight Center. Responsibilities
include monitoring daily practice support functions, customer
service for departmental and sight center issues, and acting as a
liaison between community faculty, EVMS and Sentara staff and the
chairman. - Works with the Chair and the Residency Program Director
in financial and strategic planning, business development
initiatives as well as oversees the department's billing and
collection operation encompassing medical coding, charge
submission, review of denials, bad debt, accounts receivable follow
up, reimbursement management, staff and provider education.
- Manage the daily practice operation of the Department's primary
clinical location at the EVMS Sentara Lions Sight Center.
Coordinate and schedule community faculty support staff to ensure
that operations are efficient and conform to EVMS Medical Group
Quality Standards and Sentara Healthcare policies, regulations and
standards of care, as well as all applicable federal, state and
local laws and regulations.
- Directly supervise the day to day functioning of the Residency
Coordinator, and facilitate activities between the Coordinator and
the Chairman. Foster collaboration between EVMS providers and
- Completes all HR functions for Sentara staff members (12-15),
including hiring, department orientation, training, maintenance of
employee files, and all disciplinary actions. Conducts annual
performance evaluations for all Sentara staff members. Ensures Tech
competencies are reviewed annually and are compliant with national
- Oversee the annual recruitment process for residents; monitors
the eye clinic schedules of the faculty, created by the Residency
Coordinator, to ensure accuracy and adequate supervision of
resident clinical staff.
- Maintain a patient-centered clinical practice environment
conducive to staff and providers individuality and creativity as
well as responsibility. Provides feedback opportunity for patients,
staff, and faculty. -
- Provides staff (EVMS, EVMS Medical Group, Sentara, Community
Faculty and clinical Residents) with clear expectations of their
responsibilities and encourages their participation in problem
solving. Conducts annual performance evaluations for all faculty,
and reports results to the Chair.
- Provides overall supervision of staff and oversight of all
aspects of operations including customer service, budget, risk
management, billing and compliance with organizational and clinical
care policies, regulations and standards of care. Conduct research
and best practice analysis related to operational activitiesEnsure
preparation of agendas, reports, memos, letters and other written
communication on behalf of the Chairman; schedules, organizes,
attends and takes minutes at department meetings.
- Develops, maintains, and monitors the annual EVMS Medical Group
and EVMS budget with oversight from the Chair. Reviews and analyzes
the revenue, expense and collection trends for the practice on a
monthly basis and reports findings to Chair.
- Monitors clinical productivity; tracks monthly statistics and
prepares reports for EVMS Medical Group and the department.
- Participates in the EVMS Medical Group Practice Management
Committee and Strategic Management Committee, and other committee
as requested to develop plans and procedures for improvement of
patient care and practice support operations. -
- Develop and implement a work flow to ensure adherence to EVMS
Medical Group Service Rounding initiative; reporting actionable
items to Chairman and EVMS Medical Group. Monitor work flow
involving integration between Sentara and EVMS/EVMS Medical Group
within the Sight Center. -
- Coordination of development efforts for the department,
including preparation of financial reports for donors and
newsletters for the faculty and alumni; management of special
projects as directed by the Chair.
- Maintain the calendar and scheduling for the Department Chair;
accurately record and submit all Medical Director Activities
performed by the Chair on a monthly basis.
- Maintain accurate faculty files, appointments and promotions,
and act as a liaison between the Faculty Affairs office and the

Operations experience in an academic practice plan or large
multi-specialty group practice is preferred. -A Master's degree in
business, healthcare management, finance, public health, or related
