POSITION SUMMARY: Directs all aspects of member engagement including the leadership of the member services and wellness floor teams. Develops, plans, and implements internal communication procedures to further engage the members in the facility. Develops and follows new procedures and methods within Association guidelines to achieve strategic goals. Assists the Executive Director in the development of family-centered programs and provides a leadership role in the Annual Fundraising Campaign and key family center initiatives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Division of Duties: 80% Leadership and supervision of the membership, personal training and wellness staff 10% Association and family center meetings and branch manager on duty shifts 10% Center Annual Campaign support Priorities:

  • Responsible for development and execution of personal training, membership, group exercise, Regymen and marketing budgets for the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA
  • Responsible for development and execution of Personal Training and Health & Wellness association goals
  • Support the recruitment of new members and retention of existing members through the creation of successful marketing plans and strategies to achieve financial goals of the family center
  • Supervision of all aspects of Membership and Wellness departments at the Blocker Norfolk Family YMCA The Membership and Wellness Director must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including: Budget and Financial Performance
    • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and health and wellness, and takes appropriate action to correct negative variances
    • Prepares marketing plans and monthly sales campaign strategies to ensure overall success for each monthly goal or change to Implements all marketing plans and sales campaign strategies to ensure Membership and Personal Training revenue goal achievement
    • Meets expectations of corporate membership growth and retention Program Development and Membership Engagement
      • Implements sales and membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention/engagement of existing members including achievement of prospect closing ratios, 13-month retention goals and membership revenue goals
      • Leads the center's member engagement initiatives to achieve the Centers 13-month retention and net promoter score goals
      • Implements an external communication plan to promote Y membership and programs in order to achieve budget goals
      • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potentialmembers to meet Center budget and participation goals
      • Builds and maintains relationships with Corporate partners and manages the center's group sales including ASYMCA Initiative memberships
      • Develops and leads internal procedures to connect new and existing members with a personal trainer to enroll into a wellness program
      • Ensures safety, cleanliness and function of Wellness Center fitness floors and equipment Team Performance Toward Organizational Goals
        • Recruits, hires, develops, schedules and leads personnel and volunteers as needed
        • In partnership with Association leadership, reviews and evaluates staff performance and implements strategies to train and motivate staff
        • Coordinates marketing efforts to maximize program enrollment and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues
        • Coordinates effective communication plans with department heads to increase the percentage of members participating in additional programming
        • Follows all standards, policies and procedures as established by the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, including Employee Code of Conduct, Child Abuse Reporting and Prevention, emergency procedures; YMCA COVID-19 sanitation and standards, and required program records Professional Development
          • Adheres to all policies, guidelines, rules, and best practices as outlined by the YMCA of South Hampton Roads or as directed by supervisor
          • Attends Membership Wellness Cabinet Meetings
          • Incorporates the five core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith into all aspects of YMCA programs
          • Attends trainings and meetings as required

            • Engaging Community QUALIFICATIONS:
              • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
              • Currently holds or achieves a nationally accredited personal training and Regymen certifications within 12 month of start date
              • Previous supervisory experience in customer service preferred including five or more years of experience managing personnel
              • Exceptional verbal and written skills.
              • Previous supervision of a 1500 membership unit YMCA or equivalency preferred
              • Previous management of budget exceeding $500,000
              • Demonstrated track record of generating leads and closing sales
              • Strategic planning and tactical execution experience that results in achievement of goals
              • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software
              • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
