The HRBRC is a newly formed organization created to foster innovation and applied technologies seeking solutions to epidemic and endemic crises with a focus on health disparities (e.g. Medicaid population) through digital applications and technologies leading to a sustainable regional biohealth research ecosystem and lasting Commonwealth impact. Old Dominion University (ODU), Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), and Sentara Healthcare convened the HRBRC to establish a world-class biohealth research capability that capitalizes on the unique qualities and assets of the healthcare ecosystem in Hampton Roads, Virginia.The HRBRC seeks a visionary leader with skills to establish an internationally recognized institute in digital health and health equity. The Executive Director will lead a regional and statewide effort to build an ecosystem of researchers, problem solvers, and entrepreneurs who use model- and data-rich assets to answer socially important and economically valuable healthcare problems. She or he will work directly with those entrepreneurs, innovators, and researchers to help them develop viable business models and to connect with the financial, intellectual, and social capital necessary to assemble the personnel, expertise, and experience necessary to make Virginia a national leader in technologically empowered health and health equity research. HRBRC is seeking a candidate for an initial appointment for a 3-year term.The Executive Director will be expected to develop and implement a compelling, collaborative vision for HRBRC; forge and follow through on strategic partnerships; and interact collegially with academic and industry communities, federal sponsors, municipalities, and state government agencies. Minimum qualifications include a master's degree in a data- or healthcare-related field and substantial experience in innovation and entrepreneurial activities, with demonstrable accomplishments. Preferred qualifications include a MD or doctorate and a substantial research portfolio at the intersection of data and healthcare technologies; a successful record of collaboration with a variety of agency types, such as higher education, business, military, and government; and substantial leadership experience in the public or private sector. The Executive Director will have frequent interactions with ODU's campuses in Norfolk and Suffolk VA, Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk VA, and Sentara Healthcare facilities throughout Hampton Roads VA. Frequent regional and national travel is expected.With a number of key strengths in the region-including the Virginia Modeling and Simulation Center (VMASC), EVMS-Sentara Healthcare Analytics and Delivery Science Institute (HADSI), and the National Center for Collaboration in Medical Modeling and Simulation (NCCMMS)-the HRBRC will capitalize on the unique partnership of the founding institutions, perform advanced and impactful biohealth research, and engage in meaningful community service to further the regional economy. Old Dominion University, located in the City of Norfolk in the metropolitan Hampton Roads region of coastal Virginia, is a state-assisted, Carnegie doctoral/research extensive institution that serves its students and enriches the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world through rigorous academic programs, strategic partnerships, and active civic engagement. It has grown rapidly to meet the anticipated needs of the Hampton Roads metropolitan region for medical training, specialized healthcare services, and focused biomedical research. It's medical, residency and health professions graduates contribute significantly to the region's healthcare workforce. The school has established key partnerships for medical training (Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning) and research with the region's largest healthcare providers, including Sentara Health Care and Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters. As a full complement to its regional healthcare mission, EVMS has established nationally recognized research programs that focus on community health challenges.
