Job Description:
Job Description: Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of
electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of
materials and principles of operation of electrical equipment under
direction of supervisor. Ensure compliance of OSHA, USCG, ABS, U.S.
Navy and company safety requirements concerning work assignments
Prepare and install equipment or system alterations in accordance
with the technical specifications. Maintain and repair electrical
and electro-mechanical systems of ferries, dredges, and all other
marine vessels. Read and interpret electrical schematics and
blueprints, planning, laying-out and installing equipment and
cabling. Place conduit, pipes or tubing, inside designated
partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated
wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between
boxes. Repair/Replace cables and connectors. Install, maintain, and
repair AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels,
lighting and alarm circuits, electronic equipment and cables.
Disconnect and reconnect motors and electrical equipment.
Adjust/align or replace components of motors, generators, and
alternators such as bearings, centrifugal switches, brushes,
diodes, etc. Install conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws,
using hand tools, and threads wires through conduit to terminals,
such as connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and
switch panels. Perform maintenance and repair of generators,
switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors,
distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits. Identify various
cables by cable types, number of conductors and wire size. Remove
and install cables found overhead (ceiling), along a bulkhead
(wall) or underneath deck (floor)- cable runs may range from a few
feet to more than a thousand feet. Assistance during the cable runs
varies according to the cable size, length of the run, and physical
difficulty. Test electrical characteristics such as voltage
construct instrument panels, using hand tools, rulers, dividers,
and power drills, following specification. Notify supervisors of
potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective
actions taken. Board ships via stairs, ladders, and gangways with
tool bags and needed equipment. Control cost in assigned area of
responsibility. Understand and act upon instruction / work
independently to complete responsibilities. Other duties may be
assigned as workload dictates. Qualifications: Must have at least
five years of experience as an electrician in the maritime
industry. Must be familiar and able to understand NAVSEA Standard
Items. Must have knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and
instruments associated with the trade. (i.e., flukes, meggers, temp
sensors, drills, blast machines, grinders, test panels.) Must have
thorough knowledge and understanding of wire sizes and capacity of
each. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of AC and DC
power and control of same. Must be familiar with a variety of
engine room and ships electrical systems. Must be able to expertly
perform installation, repair, overhaul, or modification of
shipboard items or in shop to electrical or electromechanical
systems and components. Must be able to accurately perform
component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose problems first
time thorough. Must be able to assist with the performance of
on-site electrical service for system grooms and checkouts, minor
repairs, connectorization, and system configuration validation.
Must be able to work effectively with others. Must be a steady,
reliable worker. Must have regular, reliable attendance. Pay:$24.00
- $27.00 per hour $110 Perdiem Non Local Only Ameri-Force Benefits
