Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance Travel Requirements : 20% Location: Little Creek and Norfolk, VA SUMMARY : WR has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer, Principal to contribute in the research, planning and design of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. Direct and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems. Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Primary technical lead for consulting to clients and using extensive experience and judgment.Oversees the research and analysis of customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Top technical contributor in the design of products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems. Plans and directs the technical activities of other mechanical design team members. Plans and directs engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications. Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment. Using extensive experience, independently designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software. Provides complex technical direction and leadership to less experienced members of the design team. Evaluates complex field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions. Provides recommendations for long term technical strategy. Primary technical authority in the evaluation of new technical resources and equipment. Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience: Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, physics, related scientific discipline or higher. Fifteen (15)+ years of professional engineering design, test, and analysis experience in one of the following areas: Shock and vibrationAND/OR Airborne and structure borne noiseHeat transfer/dissipationChassisCircuit CardConnectorAND/OR Harness layout for Optimization of Mechanical Design for accessibility and ease of Repair and Replacement GENERAL ENGINEERING DUTIES : Participates in the research and analysis of customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Consults with other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system. Writes and maintains documentation to describe program development, testing, changes, and corrections. Writes documentation or reviews documentation written by others that describes installation and operating procedures. Supports Business Development activities including, but not limited to: Presentations and their developmentMeetingsContract and proposal support. Supports leading and mentoring of junior personnel. Strong knowledge of 3D modeling, Bills of Material, and cost/quality decisions. Experience with Production Level Drawing. Preferred: Extensive experience working with CAD software (Auto Desk Inventor preferred) Proficiency in MS Office QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Work with mathematical concepts such as: Probability inferenceStatistical inferenceFundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as: FractionsPercentagesRatios and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Possess average physical ability, including the ability to conduct occasional visits to customer facilities to see the computer screen, and operate equipment. Generally performs work within an office environment or at a customer site.
