The Science Museum of Virginia wants YOU to join our team as a
Summer Camp Counselor ! Get ready to have fun, inspire young minds,
and be a part of a dynamic and exciting camp experience! As a
Summer Camp Counselor, you will play a key role in ensuring every
camper has the BEST summer possible. Duties and/or key
responsibilities to include but are not limited to: Help facilitate
engaging, hands-on science activities for campers ages 6-11 Plan
and lead ice-breakers and fun games to keep kids laughing and
learning Be prepared to handle emergencies with care and
confidence, ensuring camper safety Communicate with parents to
share the awesome experiences their kids are having at camp Be a
positive, supportive role model who creates a welcoming, inclusive
environment for all Perform other duties assigned as needed. This
is a temporary position (11 weeks), Monday – Friday, 8:30am –
5:00pm, from May 26, 2026 – August 8, 2026. No state benefits are

candidates should be energetic, outgoing, and have a genuine
appreciation of working with children in an educational
environment; have the ability to be a self-starter and work
successfully with little supervision; the ability to communicate
effectively and efficiently with staff; and the ability to
effectively present content in both one-on-one and group situations
in an engaging way. Science “expertise” is not required, but
willingness to learn is. The successful candidate will also
demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, patience and
flexibility. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
Additional Considerations Experience in theater, teaching or public
speaking; experience working with children of various ages in a
camp setting; working towards a degree with coursework in science
or education OR equivalent experience. Previous experience
delivering educational programs in informal and/or formal settings
is a plus. Museum experience and first aid training are a plus.
Bilingual competency, particularly Spanish language, a plus.
